Biography of DJ/VJ "Big Ben" Suggs
"Big Ben" has been a professional DJ/VJ since 2003, but he's been entertaining for far longer.
Even from an early age, Ben always had a knack for entertaining the people around him. From chatting up a group of older relatives at 5 or taping his own version of Sports Center at 10, Ben has always enjoyed putting on a show.
During his school years, his interests spanned from basketball and golf to music and drama. During his senior year, besides taking home the high honor of "class clown," he was approached by his principle after reading the afternoon announcements. Instead of scolding him for putting his own twist on the same old script, she encouraged him to talk to her friend Bill Freeman, who headed up the state of the art Broadcasting program at Central Carolina Community College. After graduation, he enrolled there and began his degree.
During his time at CCCC, Ben's career as a DJ/VJ took off. He began playing for schools, birthday parties and on the air at the college's radio station; WDDC 90.5 THE BEAT, hosting his own morning show. He exited with his degree and took a job with Clear Channel Radio in Greensboro.
Recently, Ben returned to CCCC and WDCC as a Teaching Assistant and the station's music programmer. He also began working as a weekend DJ/VJ for Raleigh's #1 rated station—G105 THE HIT MUSIC CHANNEL. He also began a weekly Christian music show called Risen Radio, which airs Sunday nights at 8 on 90.5 THE BEAT, and is looking to syndicate it to other stations in the future.
Ben has done everything from weddings and birthdays to schools and fraternities for PC Productions. His high energy persona and interactive approach (as well as his self-proclaimed "smoldering good looks"...) has made him a big hit at school dances and proms.
When asked what makes him a good DJ/VJ, he states quite plainly, "I'm awesome..."—glad to see there's no self-esteem issues here!
