Tips for Hiring a DJ

Experience & Background:

  • Find out how much experience "your" DJ has—not just the company.
  • Does the DJ have wedding experience?
  • PC Productions—DJs have various backgrounds. Patrick Cooke has five years entertainment background with Carnival Cruise Lines and two years experience in radio. Other PC Production's DJs have been specially trained by the owner to meet strict professional qualifications. Weddings comprise 80% of our business.

Special Arrangements vs. Set Agendas:

  • DJ should accommodate you and the scheduling of the reception.
  • Bride, groom, family, and friends should have a good time with no worries.
  • PC Productions—works directly with the couple, wedding director, and/or facility management to meet any special needs or requirements. We know that this is your special day and will be treated as such!

Interactive vs. Just Spinning the Discs:

  • Will the DJ get guests on the dance floor with a unique style or will he just play music?
  • Will the DJ make a good impression and relate to all of your guests?
  • Will the DJ have party games and props?
  • Will the DJ be "in tune" with the crowd and able to read their responses?
  • PC Productions—"The most interactive DJ in the Triangle" will perform to the couple's wishes.

Price:

  • Talk to several DJs and obtain price quotes.
  • Be clear as to what is included in the price:
    • Set up/take down?
    • Lights/special effects?
  • PC Productions—Our price is all-inclusive (except travel when necessary).

Travel:

  • Find out if the DJ will travel if needed.
  • What is the travel policy?
  • PC Productions—will gladly come to the selected location. Extra travel charges apply for travel over 1 hour outside of the Raleigh area.

Appearance:

  • Meet "your" DJ prior to the day of the reception.
  • Insist on meeting the DJ that will be at your reception.
  • Make sure your DJ's appearance and equipment set up is professional and neat.
  • PC Productions—DJ's play in formal attire with attractive equipment set up.

Music Selection & Requests:

  • Make sure the DJ has your favorite songs and music formats.
  • Can your DJ provide specialty music and requests?
  • Will they keep the requests in good taste and in the appropriate atmosphere?
  • Inform your DJ about what songs not to play.
  • PC Productions—Provides music suitable to your taste and those of your guests.

Reliability:

  • Get a contract.
  • Make sure it is clear when and where the DJ will set up and play.
  • Obtain references.
  • PC Productions—Arrives 90 minutes prior to start time and is ready to play when your first guest arrives. Will graciously provide references upons request.
