Tips for Hiring a DJ/VJ

Experience & Background:

  • Find out how much experience "your" DJ/VJ has—not just the company.
  • Does the DJ/VJ have wedding experience?
  • PC Productions—DJ/VJs have various backgrounds. Patrick Cooke has five years entertainment background with Carnival Cruise Lines and two years experience in radio. Other PC Production's DJ/VJs have been specially trained by the owner to meet strict professional qualifications. Weddings comprise 80% of our business.

Special Arrangements vs. Set Agendas:

  • DJ/VJ should accommodate you and the scheduling of the reception.
  • Bride, groom, family, and friends should have a good time with no worries.
  • PC Productions—works directly with the couple, wedding director, and/or facility management to meet any special needs or requirements. We know that this is your special day and will be treated as such!

Interactive vs. Just Spinning the Discs:

  • Will the DJ/VJ get guests on the dance floor with a unique style or will he just play music?
  • Will the DJ/VJ make a good impression and relate to all of your guests?
  • Will the DJ/VJ have party games and props?
  • Will the DJ/VJ be "in tune" with the crowd and able to read their responses?
  • PC Productions—"The most interactive DJ/VJ in the Triangle" will perform to the couple's wishes.

Price:

  • Talk to several DJ/VJs and obtain price quotes.
  • Be clear as to what is included in the price:
    • Set up/take down?
    • Lights/special effects?
  • PC Productions—Our price is all-inclusive (except travel when necessary).

Travel:

  • Find out if the DJ/VJ will travel if needed.
  • What is the travel policy?
  • PC Productions—will gladly come to the selected location. Extra travel charges apply for travel over 1 hour outside of the Raleigh area.

Appearance:

  • Meet "your" DJ/VJ prior to the day of the reception.
  • Insist on meeting the DJ/VJ that will be at your reception.
  • Make sure your DJ/VJ's appearance and equipment set up is professional and neat.
  • PC Productions—DJ/VJ's play in formal attire with attractive equipment set up.

Music Selection & Requests:

  • Make sure the DJ/VJ has your favorite songs and music formats.
  • Can your DJ/VJ provide specialty music and requests?
  • Will they keep the requests in good taste and in the appropriate atmosphere?
  • Inform your DJ/VJ about what songs not to play.
  • PC Productions—Provides music suitable to your taste and those of your guests.

Reliability:

  • Get a contract.
  • Make sure it is clear when and where the DJ/VJ will set up and play.
  • Obtain references.
  • PC Productions—Arrives 90 minutes prior to start time and is ready to play when your first guest arrives. Will graciously provide references upons request.
